Midwest Uke Camp

Organized by Ben Hassenger and Stan Werbin and sponsored by Elderly Instruments

Starting at mid-day on Friday and going through noon on Sunday, the weekend included 8 workshops in five tracks, two concerts, open mic, group strums and lots of opportunities for interaction with other ukulele players over food, snacks and other times. And it included six meals and a bed to sleep in!

During the final concert, Paul and Gerald needed a bit of bass to provide some bottom. They got it! Steve Szilagy, Frank Youngman, and Dominic John Davis, with Andy on the Bass Harmonica!

Jim Beloff with the Guinness Book of World Record verified largest ukulele. At over 13 feet, it is a bit on the large size!

Lil’ Rev provided ukulele and harmonica instruction, I took one of each. He is an amazing instructor!

Paul Hemmings is a wizard of ukulele jazz! I got a much better understanding of music theory from his class.

Gerald Ross has many talents, one of them being instruction.  He also has excellent taste in shirts!

Jim Beloff and his contributions to those learning and playing the ukulele are legendary! Took a class on Lyle Ritz jazz and the Baritone.

Kimo Hussey was amazing, he showed us how to do improve and provided a solid understanding of how the left hand, the right hand and the brain all work together.

Frank led a workshop on leading large groups, as well as assisting with bass throughout the weekend.

 The Ukulele Dude with one of his favorite ukulele couples, Sarah Maisel and Craig Chee. They are always so full of energy and happy!

The Ukulele Dude performed a number of Open Mike numbers as well as getting to do a bit of duet work with Kimo Hussey!
